How to read the dial

Dial number from zero, decimals allowed, e.g. 3.7. Stepless, so any point between markings works.

Good to know

• Stepless. Varia retailers give two different burr-travel figures for the same Gen 2 grinder: 0.02 mm (20 µm) per adjustment increment in the product text, and 0.01 mm (10 µm) per increment in the spec list, both on Rogue Wave's page. It is also not stated how an 'increment' relates to a printed number. burr_travel_um_per_step is null until this is confirmed.
• HCG lists the range as 170-1400 µm and reads the dial as 'numbers from zero'. zero_offset_um = 170 is the bottom of HCG's range, an estimate, not a measurement.
• HCG settings were read from search-result extracts (the HCG table loads with script). HCG reports the same numbers on its Gen 1 and Gen 2 pages. Spot-check before relying on them.
• Bean Bros suggests espresso at 2-4 and filter at 9-14; the spec sheets time an 18 g dose at espresso #4 (34 s) and filter #10 (25 s). Both are roughly in line with HCG.
• range.max is null: the dial is stepless and HCG's French press row runs to 18; we found no stated top end.
• Gen 1 and Gen 2 burrs are not interchangeable. Gen 1 settings may not carry over.
• Motor: 100 W DC with a stainless gearbox. Retailers quote 190 RPM no-load and 170 RPM under load (one says 160). Rest 90 s after 60 s of continuous grinding.
• Retention (10 g dose): under 0.1 g with RDT, under 0.2 g without (Varia spec via Rogue Wave).
