How to read the dial
Dial number, e.g. 25. Stepless, so halves are fine (25.5). Number 0 is set where the burrs first chirp.
Zero: burrs touching (light chirp with the motor running); user calibrates the indicator to 0 there

Good to know
- Stepless collar with 90 printed numbers per turn. burr_travel_um_per_step (about 10.4 µm per number) comes from a 3D-printed vernier indicator maker on Printables who measured the stock DF64 dial. That listing (Feb 2023) predates or overlaps Gen 2 and does not say which generation was measured; treat it as approximate for Gen 2.
- HCG lists the Gen 2 range as 180-1050 µm across the dial. zero_offset_um = 180 is the bottom of that range, an estimate, not a measurement.
- HCG settings were read from search-result extracts of the HCG table, not a direct read of the page (the table loads with script). Spot-check against the page.
- Settings come from Honest Coffee Guide; HCG only gave ranges for espresso, V60, AeroPress, moka pot, French press and cold brew in what we could read. DF Grinders also publishes its own chart (PDF below); its text extraction was too garbled to map numbers to methods reliably, but it reads roughly espresso 5-12, AeroPress 15-35, French press 65-75, cold brew around 85.
- Where 0 sits depends on each user's calibration. Charts assume 0 = burrs touching; re-check zero after cleaning or a burr swap.
- Adjust while the motor is running when going finer, to avoid jamming beans between the burrs (DF chart).
- Weight: DF Grinders and Eight Ounce both say 6.8 kg for the DF64 Gen 2. Some resellers list 3.9 kg, which is the DF64V figure.
- Hopper: 50 g with bellows, about 20 g without (Eight Ounce). Retention under 0.1 g claimed with bellows and ionizer; reviewers measured about 0.2-0.3 g.
- Same grinder is sold under several private labels (Turin, MiiCoffee, G-IOTA, Solo). The DF64V is a different model with a different dial.
