Breville Smart Grinder Pro (BCG820)
About US$199.95 · CA$299.99 (Oct 2026)
How to read the dial
Grind setting number on the LCD, e.g. 12. 1 is finest, 60 coarsest. Breville bands: 1-30 espresso, 31-48 drip filter/percolator, 49-54 medium coarse, 55-60 French press.
Zero: factory-calibrated; 1 is finest. The upper burr sits at position 6 by default and can be moved 1 number at a time (positions 1-10) to shift the whole range finer or coarser.
Adjustable upper burr (positions 1-10, default 6) acts as a range shift, not a fine-tune between steps.

Good to know
- Breville publishes no burr travel or particle-size data. burr_travel_um_per_step is null.
- zero_offset_um 200 is the finest end of Honest Coffee Guide's 200-820 µm range for this grinder. Treat as an estimate.
- Breville's chart lists stovetop percolator / moka machines and steam (non-pump) espresso in or near the espresso band, but the PDF text layout does not make the exact band clear, so moka pot is left out. The formula handles it.
- The 49-54 'medium coarse' band covers drip with a gold-tone filter and coarse-screen percolators. No method id here matches those.
- Honest Coffee Guide also publishes a community chart for this grinder, but its table did not render when fetched, so no values were taken from it.
- Many home users find espresso on pressurised (dual-wall) baskets lands near 30 and on unpressurised baskets well below 12. Move the upper burr finer if you run out of range at 1.
- Hopper is listed as 1 lb; 450 g is the conversion.
- Burr diameter is not published by Breville. Release year is not confirmed from a primary source.
