How to read the dial

Setting number on the base ring, e.g. 15. Settings 1-20 are the espresso range, 21-40 the filter range.

Zero: factory-calibrated; 1 is finest. Each included shim shifts the scale by about 5 settings.

Non-linear dial: small steps in 1-20 (espresso), larger steps in 21-40 (filter).

Good to know

  • The dial is not linear, so one microns_per_step value fits poorly. 29 is an average estimated as (1380 - 230) / 39 from Honest Coffee Guide's 230-1380 µm range. Prefer the published settings.
  • Retailers quote conflicting per-click figures (Prima Coffee about 20 µm then 90 µm; Cworks 9 µm then 45 µm). Neither is confirmed by Baratza.
  • zero_offset_um is Honest Coffee Guide's finest particle size (230 µm). Treat as an estimate.
  • Baratza: for darker roasts or larger doses go coarser (higher number); lighter roasts or smaller doses go finer.
  • Grind settings drift finer as parts settle in; Baratza supplies shims to shift the range.
  • Release year 2022 is from launch coverage (CoffeeGeek); the manual is dated January 2023.
